Playground at Te falta calle Festival 2025

Playground. A chinese pole show with acrobatics, theater, dance, and absurd humor. Miguel Rubio flying on the chinese pole

Street theatre is a discipline within the performing arts that is characterised by taking place in public spaces. Its origins date back to the birth of the performing arts: long before artistic performances moved to theatres and other enclosed venues, theatre itself had its raison d’être where life took place: in the streets, squares and markets. As the show is not restricted by a venue or the payment of an entrance fee, it becomes democratised and reaches all those who are surprised by the performance at that moment.

By taking the show out of the classic performance spaces, the street or square becomes the setting where the audience and the stage meet. As many of them are itinerant in nature (the show moves and the audience moves with it), the audience is encouraged to enjoy the different corners of the itinerary. If we think of the numerous monumental and historical sites in our province, we can imagine a very interesting symbiosis between heritage and the performing arts.

And it is there, in the connection between culture, heritage and citizenship, that this festival is born.

Do you want to know more about Playground?

Playground is a comic and absurd proposal that rises up to 8 metres high, fusing Chinese pole, dance, theatre, acrobatics and humour. A tragicomedy full of surprises and unexpected twists and turns. This is Miguel Rubio’s challenge: his scenography comes to life thanks to those who decide to support it. Eight chairs form part of the structure, and the audience that occupies these seats becomes a fundamental pillar. Without them, the show would not stay afloat.

In an attempt to stay balanced on the Chinese pole, Miguel Rubio faces unpredictable situations. To overcome them, he needs the physical and emotional help of the audience, who become essential accomplices in the show. Playground is a solo show, warm and full of character, based on a collaborative anchoring system. Here, the connection between artist and audience is the key: without their support, the magic doesn’t happen.
